Question de Arnold
Hello, Me and my wife are residents of Switzerland since 3 years and living in Geneva at present. We want to make our will. Could you please guide us whom we can contact for this at subsidized prices ? Do we need to contact a lawyer or a notary ? Could you guide us how much this is likely to cost ? Is there such a Service provided by Etat de Genève at subsidized rates ? Thank you, Arnold
Réponse de Familles GenèveHello, Hereafter, you can find the most current practice to write a will: Holographic will or ordinary: That means you write yourself your last will. This act must be written entirely by hand (your own hand), be dated and signed by you. Must be mentioned the place, as well as the year, month and day when it was draft. It is not necessary to establish it on stamped paper. It is much better if the will is placed by the solicitor or within the “Justice de Paix”, but this does not constitute an obligation. This will is valid as long as it has not been dismissed. It can be cancelled in any time or be replaced by another. Public will or authenticates: You have to express your will to a public officer (in Geneva: solicitor). This last writes it himself or by his secretary. Then you read it again and sign it. The document is countersigned and dated by the solicitor and two witnesses. This will is valid as long as it is not replaced by another one of any other form, dismissing the preceding layout or irreconcilable with those. The permanence of the notary office can help you to prepare a project of will for CHF 50. - and gives you all the information necessary to this subject, here the link: Permanence de la Chambre des Notaires de Genève If you wish to depose the will, here the link with some practical information: Justice de paix
